While cycling is fun, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Learning how to ride properly may be a good plan. Two ways to improve your cycling skills are taking a cycling class or getting acquainted with the Dutch traffic rules.

The vast majority of the Dutch cycle: it is really a part of our culture. Cycling safely will be taught to us by our parents and at school at a very young age. It allows kids to travel independently very quickly. Getting older, we are introduced to other transport modes like the car, bus, train, tram or underground. These can be good alternatives for the bike, but as many Dutchmen will tell you: cycling is healthier and more fun!

Dutch habits
Many of the Dutch cycle to school or to work. You may be wondering: what do they wear? Everything goes, as long as you make sure that nothing can get stuck in your chain or spokes. By cycling regularly, your will get used to your bicycle. Before you know it, you may find yourself cycling two abreast or riding with a passenger on the luggage carrier. Very Dutch! (This is allowed, but always remember to keep an eye on the road users around you…)
